Today's blog contains an interview between me and my mother. My mom was born in 1981, making her 38 years old. She was mainly raised by my grandmother, who moved to the states from Puerto Rico at the age of 19. She also spent time with my grandfather who is African American. The interview went as followed:

Me: What kind of music did you grow up with?

Mom: I grew up listening to a large variety of music. I listened to reggaeton, bachata, merengue, R&B, hip hop/rap, rock, gospel, you name it!

Me; Were you involved in any music groups at school or church or anywhere else?

Mom: I was actually in choir and the youth leader in church when I was 18. I also played the drums here and there for the church and also on my free time.

me: Have you ever met any famous musicians?

mom: I actually met Bobby Brown one day in a mall. He was holding a little Chihuahua!

Me; Do you still listen to the same kind of music you listened to growing up?

mom: Of course! I love jamming to throwbacks by 112, Boyz II Men, Janet Jackson, Micheal Jackson, all of the greats.

me; What does music mean to you?

Mom: Music means almost every and anything to me. Music express feelings you can't express with your own words. Music is happiness, sadness, anger, music anything you want or need it to be in that moment you're in .

me: What do you think of popular music today? Do you like my music?

mom; I actually enjoy today's music. I love to get , as y'all say, lit to it. But of course there's nothing like that good ole 90's music.

me: I know you're busy and have to go back to work , so here's you're last question...

Was music a priority in your family? How so?

Mom: music was definitely a priority. Both sides of my family LOOOOOOVVEEE to dance. Dancing is like the soul of black and Hispanic culture.

me: Thank you for your time! Is there anything else you would like to add?

Mom: all I have to say is music rules the world no matter where you are.

It's neat to hear how enthusiastic your mom is about all types of music. And she played the drums in high school! Does she ever play any more? You should get her to show you!

I like how many different genres your mom listened to; I think that’s really interesting.
