When people, including myself, think of Arabic music they typically think of the traditionally songs and those only. Seeing the Raja Kurami music video in class made me wonder what other genres of Arabic music there is. I've learned that over that past 5 or so years there has been a rise of R&B, reggae and hip hop influence of Arabic music. In Morocco the singer Elam Jay created a contemporary version of Gnawa, fusing it with R&B and named it Gnawitone Styla. Other popular music genres that fuse with Arabic music are jazz, rock and electronica.

This is interesting, Tanjae. The Arabic Jazz singer is especially intriguing--I really like the sound of her voice. As a blog entry, though, it's missing a 3rd cool thing/something from India.
